Action Plan for Masters Project Name: Dustin Rhoades and Virginia Blais 1. Email: dustin4931@yahoo.com, virginiablais@gmail.com 2. Cohort or School:Taiwan/Dubai 3.Research Question: What is the impact of “Words Their Way” (spelling instructional program) on student progression across a spelling continuum given three 15-20 minute sessions per week over six weeks?
Dependent variable—Student progression along a spelling continuum 4.Brief description of intervention. (Cut and paste from previous posting if you like): a.Students will meet together in differentiated “flexible” groups 3 times a week for 15-20 to practice using the activities in the Words Their Way Program to learn the patterns, phonics, roots and etc. they’ll need to successfully spell the words on their list. b.Two teachers will be in the room (both Dustin and Virginia) during the time students conduct the activities. c.At the end of the week, students will be given an assessment of the words on their list (as well as some additional words that fit the pattern they’ve studied) to see if they can apply their understanding. d.At the end of the six week trial, students will be given the assessment they took at the beginning of our study to see how they’ve progressed along the continuum. Additionally, students will be given a pre/post Likert scale assessment to help us assess whether or not student perceptions of themselves as successful spellers has changed. e.Lastly, student data from our experimental group will be compared with our control group (at the end of six weeks) to help us determine whether a relationship exists between the program and student spelling. 5.Research Design: (cut and paste from previous posting): 6. If you are working in a group list the individuals in the group members names & emails: Virginia Blais and Dustin Rhoades (emails listed above). 7.When do you plan to start your action research 1/11/10 8.When do you plan to end your action research 2/18/10 9.Please fill in the attached table.
